Steel Behemoth Forward View

A front view of the robot.

The Steel War Behemoths are tall bipedal war machines built by the Fabrication Machine. They are also known as Walkers or Mech-Walkers ("mech" being short for "mechanical"). They were commissioned by The Chancellor to further facilitate his goals of world domination and dictatorship before being reprogrammed by the Fabrication Machine when it went insane to destroy all organic life on Earth.

Description/Appearance

A war behemoth machine stands approximately 30 feet tall on a pair of slender legs. Though thin in structural design,

They are quite strong and capable of moving at considerable speeds. The main ‘head’ of the body consists of a red oculus bulb in the centre, a single Gatling gun armed under the eye, and several poison-gas tank bombs concealed within its hooded-back. During the Machine War, the Fabrication Machine made other particulate models of the steel war behemoths with reconfigured advancements including the comportment of gas tank bombs, mortar guns, howitzers, and even anti aircraft guns, even though some of these were not mentioned or featured in the film.

History

Before the Machine War’s emergence, The Chancellor had ordered the Fabrication

Machine to construct an army of steel behemoth drones for law enforcement and to aid in his war effort. However, when the B.R.A.I.N. became overheated of the originally programmed module system of its circuit board, the war behemoths were constructed to start targeting all human beings as enemies which hence started a new war that resultantly brought the annihilation of nearly all of humanity. From the beginning to eventual cessation of the Machine War, the Earth’s population and liveliness of nature was overall affected by the poison-gassed rockets and gunfire from the Steel War Behemoths.

2009 Film

The Steel War Behemoths’ only appearances in the film were as dead hulks in their environment, in 1's flashback on how the world was during the age of the Machine, and within images from a propaganda film prerecorded and provided by 3 and 4.

In 1’s flashback during the time point of the Machine War, a Steel War Behemoth shoots a man who had thrown a light Molotov cocktail at one, along with two others that launched several poison-gas tank bombs that killed some flowering plants nearby. 5 loses his left eye as a gas bomb strikes the ground behind him, causing him to flip and strike his face against the ground. He was rescued by 7 and 2.

In the propaganda film projected by 4, it includes audio of a radio broadcaster giving narration of The Chancellor presenting the Fabrication Machine on how it would “create machines in its own image and of peace” which could perchance bring prosperity and wealth to the nation. The propaganda film then shows visual imagery with the nation’s soldiers and rebels fighting on a battle field and then the gradualism of the machines turning against humanity.

Some Steel War Behemoths are seen in the factory in an assembly line awaiting to be activated by the Fabrication Machine, but the war had ended before they could be used. The Fabrication Machine is seen working on one before discovering the stitchpunks in the factory.

Trivia

  • They resemble the Tripod's from H.G. Wells 1898 novel "The War of the Worlds" and AT-ST walkers from Star Wars.
  • The Fabrication Machine is seen repairing one in factory. But it was destroyed when 9 and the rest of the stitchpunks obliterate the factory.
  • The entire city from the film appears that is had been devastated by the steel war behemoths, though the war behemoths only carry machine guns and gas bombs with no explosive weaponry. Any other destructive effects from a particular bomb or explosive-based weapon would have percase come from any of the Chancellor’s aerial military force(s) and/or caused by human artillery and air strikes from other nations fighting back.
  • When 9 wakes up, there are no machines walking around but the small Cat Beast. The B.R.A.I.N. was percase vitiated during the near end of the Machine War, and it eventually stopped functioning. This probably jeopardized the eventuated impact on the planet, ceasing production, breaking down and rusting.
  • It is very possible that variant models of steel war behemoths were conceptualized and manufactured to not just help with ground control, but also international attacks across water
  • It is also possible for different kind of ammunition to be given to the war behemoths. Some were probably not given gas shells, but artillery incendiary or shrapnel shells.
  • It is unknown if the steel war behemoths have attacked any other places or countries around the world, since there are no distinctive signs of life remaining on the planet after the Machine War according to hints from the film.  It is plausible that other war machines that were used in the domination of the planet not shown in either of the films.
  • On the 9 Scientist's Facebook Page, it is mentioned that somehow the steel war behemoths were able to cross oceans and kill off humans on other continents. This is likely from The Chancellor's naval and air militia that he ordered to invade and spread his ideology throughout the Middle Eastern continents, parts of Asia, and presumably the rest of the world.
  • The steel war behemoth’s feet are nonagons.
